Most important day of the Dashain festival Bijaya Dashami or Teeka Day is being observed all over the contry today.Nepalese living aboard have also celebrated the day with Teeka (Red Mark on their forehead formed with colored raw rice mixed with curd) and Jamara (various plants of rice, maize, wheat etc sowed on the first day of the festival called the Ghatasthapana Day) from their superiors in the family.The auspicious time for the Teeka today was at 0957 am.Many people want to start the Teeka Process on that auspicious time.
After the whole weeks praying and sacrifice to Goddess Durga, the goddess of power, the tenth day of the festival is called the Bijaya Dashain or Teeka Day.All sacrifice and praing ceremony concludes from the ninth day and the Teek day continues from 10th to 15th day.Today many Nepalese have received Teeka from their family and relatives.Children are happy to have Teeka and Jamara from their elders in the family.They receive the blessings along with Teeka and Jamara and also some money as Dakshina or the Teeka gift.Every child looks happy in this festival to receive Teeka and some money on their new clothes and a lot of delicious foods.Back in the days when the life standard of most of the Nepali people were very poor, it was the festival for new clothes and good food.Because average children used to get a pair of new clothes only on this festival.Time has changed now that most of the Nepalese don't need to wait this festival for good food and new clothes, but it's cultural value is equally important as this festival gives chance to everyone to meet their family, to experience a quality time with their family even once year.That's why Dashain can be called the festival of celebration, unification and interaction of 3 generation the grandparents , parents and the children.The Teeka will continue untill the Purnima or the day 15th of Dashain.
There is a tradition of receiving Teeka from the Heads of the Nation like from King(where there was Monarch in the country), President, Prime Minister etc.People even go to receive Teeka from their Boss or the higher ranked officials at their work.
After the Festival completes, people will be back to their normal life.Schools, offices , Markets and everything will resume and people will be back to their normal life again.This year the Dashain festival has some different experience for those interested in politics as the second Constitution Assembly Election date the November 19th is near now.Many political leaders have gone back to their area to meet their voters as this is the best time for them to meet everyone at their home with the whole family in a festive moods.But the negative part is that many people drink too much alcohol or even lose money on gambling in this festival and many will fight because of their different political opinion.
Despite these , Dashain is the biggest festival for all Nepali people.
