Dashain Festival Being Celebrated All Over Nepal

Today is the seventh day of the Dashain Festival which is celebrated for 15 days.Dashain is the biggest festival in Nepal.Dashain generally falls during October-November. This year the dashain festival has began from 5th october and will end on 18th of October.First day of the festival is called the Ghatasthapana, which means stablishment of the holy water pot.This day Jamara(emplantation of various grain like rice, wheat and mostly the corn ) is sown at home which will be grown by the day 7th of the festival.Day seventh is called the Fulpati.Let's see below to know the whole table.

During the festival all the government school, colleges and other institutions are closed.Almost all the workers from various sectors get 15 days holiday except for the emergency services and security sector.There will be swings of different size and structure called Linge Ping, Jhate Ping and Rote Ping at different part of the country.Children gather around the Swinging place and enjoy it turn by turn. Even the adult believe they must swing once during the festival.Kites are flown and there will be kites flying competition as well.Gambling is also seen at some places.

Deity Durga is prayed during the whole festival. Dashain festival is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. Accoring to the legends, Dashain was started when Goddess Durga Mata Killed the Demon Mahishasur and rescued all the gods.In another sayings Dashain began when Lord Ram Killed the Demon Rawan.
Dashain starts with cleaning home and the surroundings, shopping and returning home wherever they are working.New clothes, good foods, and alot meats are arranged for the festival.Out of the 15 days of the festival, 4 days from day 7th to day 10 are the most important days.The 7th day is called the fulpati, this day, there was a tradition of bringing Fulpati from Gorkha Palace to Narayanhiti Royal Palace while there was monarch.People pray to Durga mata and make the last preparation on this day.
Day eight is called the Astami or the Mar Day/Sacrifice day.This day different animals like buffaloes, Goats, sheep and chicken, ducks etc are sacrificed to Goddess Durga.After the praying, people eat the meat.The same process goes on until the day 9th called Nawami Day as well.The 10 th day is the most important day of the festival called the Teeka Day.This day giving Teeka(raw rice mixed with red/pink color and curd) begins from the seniors in the family to all the family members and the relatives.People go to their relative's home to get Teeka from their senior members of the home.This process goes on until the day 15th or the Purnima Day/Full Moon Day.
On Purnima day the offering and getting Teeka ends and completes the festival.

Dashain festival is originated from the Hindu culture, Nepal practicing the best harmony among different religions and having around 80 percent Hindus celebrates Dashain as the most important and the biggest festival.
