They were working on night sift(7 pm-am ) on Tuesday night at the construction site where a Nepalese named Nabindra Malla from Myagdi Nepal was driving the Excavator and Gurung along with another Nepalese were spraying water on the site.
According to Malla Gurung was driving along with Malla before he got off from the driving seat and went back to check, Malla reversed the Excavator thinking that Gurung was not near by.He only knew that Gurung was hit when he heard other people shouting from the behind.Seriously injured Gurung was rushed to Pokoi Hospital in Yuen Long within half an hr where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
It is said that Gurung had married before few months ago and brought his wife is Hong Kong recently. Gurung's wife and other relatives have identified his body on Wednesday morning.
The workers have said that there wasn't enough light and no CC TV and other security devices was installed on the working site.But the local newspaper Ming Pao daily has reported that there was enough light at the time of accident according to the Project Speaker.
As per the Hong Kong Industrial law, no workers will be prosecuted on such accident unless a severe ignorance is found while performing duty.
Malla hasn't been arrested as Police and the Labor Department have been investigating the case.According to the Ming Pao Daily, this is the most fatal and terrible accident since the Project has started.
Many Nepalese workers have been attracted to the construction site these days as the salary there is more than the double of other normal jobs.Most of the local people don't take such jobs due to it's risky nature where Nepalese and other south Asian workers are attracted for the handsome earning.
Nepalese in Hong Kong are mostly employed in Security, Restaurants and construction jobs.An estimated total of 40 Thousand Nepalese are residing in Hong Kong only on resident and business visa where any type of working visa has been suspended for Nepalese national.
