The 10th SAFF Championship 2013 has concluded here in Nepal on wednesday.The final match was played between India and Afghanistan at
Dashrath Stadium Kathmandu Nepal. Afghanistan has won the SAFF Championship 2013 Title with 2-0 victory over defending champion India.
The SAFF Championship was started from 31st August 2013 and concluded on 11th September 2013.The game was hosted by Nepal which is the second time Nepal has hosted any SAARC level game. The final match was started at 1830 local time at Dashrath Rangashala Stadium Kathmandu Nepal. Afghanistan player opened their first goal against India at the 9th minute of the first half. India tried to equalize the goal until the added 2 minutes of the first half but failed to turn into goal although the players had created some good moves.
Indian Team Captain Sunil Chhetri had came to ground only on second half.Chhetri had several unsuccessful attacks on Afghani post but all went to vain in front of Afghani pillar, the best keeper and the best player of the Tournament Mansur Faqiryar. Afghanistan doubled their score on the last 20 minute of the game which diminished India's attempt to equalize and seek for the win. After regular 90 minutes, there was 5 minutes added time, both sides had some beautiful attempts but didn't turn into goal so the final full time score became Afghanistan 2-India 0, making Afghanistan the Championship for the first time in their history.
Several Sports Officials and Government Representatives were present at the Award Ceremony including Nepal's Government Head and Chairman of Ministerial Council. The Champion Team was awarded with USD 50,000 Cash prize, Trophy and Shields whereas the Runner Up with USD 25,000 and the Semi Finalists with USD 10,000 cash prizes.
Nepal Team won the FIFA Fair Play Award along with Hero Motocorp MVP Award by Team's best midfielder Rabin Shrestha.Ali Ashfaq was awarded with the Top Scorer Golden Boot Award whereas Afghani Goalkeeper Mansur faqiryar bagged the Most valuable Player MVP Of the Year Award.
Teh 11nth SAFF Championship will be held in India in 2015.
